Tara Graviss White: Artist Statement
My work is my express attempt to capture the energetic essence of life itself. I enjoy sharing how and what I observe in nature, light, and found objects from my unique perspective. The images I capture are a direct reflection of the beauty I see in the world and my belief that everything has beauty…it all depends on how you see it.
My own healing journey brought me to Tantric practices while investigating intimacy (or the lack thereof) in today’s world. In Tantra everything is welcome, and I believe this principal applies to art & life. I offer you my unadulterated perspective of our intimate connection to life. I have been an artist all of my life and began The Art of Tantra point of view in 2018.
As an Expressive Arts Therapist I believe that meaning making comes from the artist (client), but as an artist I am inviting you (the viewer) to create your own meaning from what you observe in my work. The names for my pieces come to me and are intentionally obscure to allow for audience participation. I invite you to see what you see, and allow the work to move you without judgment.
In addition to my lens, I often enjoy embedding my photography into mixed media encaustics. The fusion of natural bee’s wax with the organic images allows me to create one of a kind visions for others to discover. Allowing the art to move me I explore what emerges and follow my discourse with the piece itself to reveal what wants to come through.
